Slack Permissions and Access

Before connecting Influ2 to Slack, it's worth knowing exactly what access you're granting — and what you're not. This article walks through how the connection works, what Influ2 requests from Slack, and what it can and can't do once it's connected.

How the connection works

Influ2 connects to Slack using OAuth 2.0, Slack's standard method for authorizing apps. You'll authenticate directly through Slack, and Influ2 receives a secure access token — never your Slack password. Depending on your workspace's app management settings, a workspace admin or owner may need to approve the app before it can be installed.

What Influ2 requests access to

When you connect Slack, Influ2 asks for five categories of access:

• Channel discovery — Influ2 reads the list of public and private channels in your workspace using the channels:read and groups:read scopes. This is how Influ2 populates the channel picker when you're setting up notifications.

• User directory access — Influ2 reads basic user information, including email, with the users:read scope, so it can match your followers to the right Slack accounts and route notifications correctly.

• Channel posting — Influ2 sends messages to the channels you choose using the chat:write scope. This is what lets signal notifications show up where your team is already talking.

• Direct messaging — Influ2 delivers private notifications to individual followers by looking up their Slack account by email and opening a direct message, using the chat:write scope, including optional @mentions when you turn on Mention Follower.

• Authentication — standard OpenID Connect scopes (openid, email, profile) confirm who you are when you first connect the integration.

What Influ2 can do once connected

With the integration authorized, Influ2 can see your workspace's channel structure, post signal notifications to the channels you've designated, and send direct messages to followers — with an @mention when you want someone tagged directly.

What Influ2 can't do

Influ2's access is scoped strictly to notification delivery. It cannot read your message history, access files shared in Slack, join calls or huddles, or edit and delete existing messages — its own or anyone else's. If a signal notification needs to change, Influ2 posts a new one rather than editing what's already there.

Keep in mind

• Notifications only cover signals received after you save your Slack configuration — connecting Slack doesn't trigger notifications for past signals.

• Influ2 matches followers to Slack accounts by email. If a follower's email doesn't match a Slack account, that person won't receive a direct message.

Who can manage the connection

Only users with the connection.create permission can set up or manage the Slack integration — typically your workspace administrators. If you don't see the option to connect Slack under Notification Channels, that's why.
